opening an omf
Whether it is an OMF or an AAF, importing is the same as long as the audio is embedded or encapsulated. If not embedded, an audio folder will hold all relevant media.
using handles
When a shot's audio contains handles, it is not only the audio in the shot, but pre and post roll audio. This "extra" audio is useful in crossfades between two edits as well as located some relevant room tone. Usually handle length defaults at one second in the picture editing software, but can be extended to any length.
reference video
Importing a reference video, with audio, is an important confidence factor to insure that audio is in sync with the picture.
